Caicedo moves to Lisbon on loan

Felipe Caicedo
Caicedo has only made 10 Premier League starts for City

Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo will spend the new season on loan with Sporting Lisbon after falling out of favour at Eastlands.

The arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz meant the Ecuador striker's first-team chances were limited.

The 20-year-old, who joined in January 2008 from FC Basle, has been allowed to move to Portugal.

"My objective is to play and to show that I can triumph in Europe," he said.

"City have many forwards who have arrived this summer and they have complicated my presence.

"For me it is difficult to get in the starting XI at City and the opportunity to go to Sporting is a personal challenge to me.

"I don't think it will be a problem to adapt to life in Portugal and the possibility to play in the Champions League appeals."

Caicedo, who has scored seven goals in his 35 appearances, is the second City striker to go out on loan this summer after Brazilian Jo was allowed to return to Everton, where he spent the second half of last season.

And although City are set to lose another striker in Ched Evans, who is set to move to Sheffield United, they still have plenty of attacking options.

As well as their new signings, City can call on Robinho, Craig Bellamy, Valeri Bojinov and Benjani.
