Plater secures Senior TT victory

England's Steve Plater won the blue-riband Senior TT on his HM Plan Honda in the Isle of Man on Friday.

Plater was 20 seconds ahead of McAdoo Kawasaki rider Conor Cummins, followed by Gary Johnston and Adrian Archibald.

John McGuinness, who led for the first three laps, upped the lap record to 131.58mph but he retired with a broken chain at Cruickshanks on lap four.

Plater and Cummins also smashed the 130mph lap barrier and Guy Martin retired on lap four while in third.

Bruce Anstey, Ryan Farquhar and Michael Dunlop also retired while Ian Hutchinson came off without injury at Quarter Bridge.

Plater also won the inaugural TT Championship Series, collecting the Joey Dunlop Memorial Trophy and an additional £10,000.

It is a second TT success for the Lincolnshire rider after winning in the Supersport class last year.
